ORANGE, CT — Orange firefighters extinguished a house fire in town Thursday night, preventing it from spreading throughout the entire home, according to fire officials. In a news release, Fire Chief Vaughan Dumas said members of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department were alerted to the blaze at a home on Ridgeview Road around 9 p.m. Firefighters quickly made their way to the home and could see flames through a bedroom window in the left front corner of the home, Dumas said. "Firefighters made entry to the home and knocked the fire down quickly," Dumas said in a news release. "It was under control a little after 9 p.m. Their aggressive attack prevented the fire from spreading beyond the bedroom and its contents." The chief also noted the entire home sustained smoke damage during the fire. He estimated the total damage to the house to be about $200,000. No injuries were reported, however the homeowner was examined for smoke inhalation but was ultimately not treated or transported, according to Dumas. According to Fire Marshal James Vincent, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but improperly discarded smoking materials are believed to play an accidental role in the ignition of the fire. He also noted in a news release the home had working smoke detectors. The Woodbridge Fire Department and Orange police assisted during the incident.
