HAMDEN, CT — A man is accused of injuring a 19-year-old employee while robbing the Family Dollar store in Hamden in late March, according to police. Police responded to Family Dollar at 1245 Dixwell Ave. on March 28 on the report of an assault with injuries, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. An investigation found that Clinton Edwards ran behind the counter and stole four cartons of cigarettes, Smith said. A 19-year-old employee tried to stop him, according to Smith. Smith said Edwards then shoved the employee and struck him in the head with his elbow. The employee suffered a head injury and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Edwards fled in a vehicle, heading south on Dixwell Avenue, according to Smith. Officer Jay Bunnell conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Edwards. Edwards, 50, was arrested Thursday at Meriden Superior Court. He was charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
