All Signs Point To Public Art In Downtown Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council unveiled two signposts pointing to downtown public art installations as more pedestrians prepare to hit the streets this summer. The decorative signposts at Division and Main streets (in front of the Museum on Main) and Neal Street between Wayside and Delucchi Parks (near the Firehouse Arts Center) were installed last week and are themselves pieces of art, according to the council. A dozen local artists contributed to the effort. They are slated to stay there until early fall, to "celebrate the return of downtown vitality and the lively role the arts play in that awakening," said Kelly Cousins, president of the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council, in a statement. The project was spearheaded by the council's newest member, Anne Giancola, who called the signposts "a fun and lighthearted way to remind people of the joy of creativity" in the statement. Artists participating in the project include Steve Barkkarie, Lynda Briggs, Rhonda Chase, Leta Eydelberg, Heidi Giancola, Jen Huber, Melenie Llamas, Meghana Mitragotri, Ohlone artist Antonio Morena, Charles Simmons and Barbara Stanton.
