Description
NOVATO, CA — The end of the school year marks the start of an expanded food program for Novato students.
The Novato Unified School District's Food and Nutritional Services (FANS) will continue providing meals to all students 18 years of age and under though the summer at no cost.
Starting Friday, FANS will distribute "grab-and-go" bags of breakfast and lunch at Hill Education Center (720 Diablo Ave. in Novato) Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tables will be set up for drive-through pick-up or walk-up service for meals to take home.
Meals will be distributed at schools when they reopen in the fall.
The summer meals program is part of the NUSD's pledge that all students and every child under 18 "eat for free through June 2022."
"We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices," the agency said in a statement.
The meals exceed state and federal requirements based on USDA Dietary Guidelines.
