Pride 2021: Here's Where To Celebrate In Metro Detroit

METRO DETROIT — June is Pride Month, and Metro Detroit has a plethora of events scheduled to support its LGBTQ community. Many of the usual events are virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. But some events around Detroit are in-person. Here are some of the places you can go to celebrate Pride Month in Metro Detroit. If you see some events that aren't listed, feel free to include them in a comment below. Ypsi PrideYpsi Pride began at the start of the month but will continue through June 25. According to its Facebook event page, Ypsi Pride: "aspires to unite the people of Ypsilanti through a celebration of LGBTQ+ Culture by reaffirming our visibility and inclusivity across this community." The event offers Youth and Family Night on June 11, with a fair to follow on June 18. It'll close with Collective Care Night later in the month. Grosse Pointe PrideGrosse Pointe Pride is June 26 in Grosse Pointe. The fifth annual event will feature a parade. There is no official gathering rally for the 2.5-mile walking parade, but there are opportunities to join along the route. Saint Clair Shores PrideThe Saint Clair Shores Pride event is the first pride march in Saint Clair Shores, according to event officials. The parade will start at 9 Mile and Jefferson before marching into Blossom Health. Hotter Than JulyHotter Than July celebrates Detroit's Black LGBTQ+ community. Event organizers said it is the world's second-oldest Black LGBTQ+ Pride, created in the 1960s. Motor City PrideWhile Motor City Pride was originally set for June, Michigan's largest Pride event has been pushed to September. Ferndale PrideFerndale Pride is planning on hosting several events over the rest of the year. You can see all of them here.
