WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Senior Center will open on Tuesday for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began. Following the opening, the senior center will begin hosting events, and will be open weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The center has been hosting virtual programs on the Worcester government access channel over the last year. During the closure, several renovations have happened at the senior center. The center has a new parking lot, a rain garden and an AARP outdoor fitness center. "The Senior Center is an invaluable resource, and it is certainly gratifying to be able to once again open the doors," City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. said in a news release. Early in 2021, the senior center was used as a vaccine site during the first phase of the rollout. The center will host a vaccine clinic for seniors and caregivers on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. offering the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson versions of the shot. Senior center events will be posted on Facebook, and by either emailing [email protected] or calling 508-799-1232. The center will also be serving lunch, but reservations are required two days in advance by calling 508-799-8070 between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or 508-852-3205, extension 290, after 1 p.m.
