Description

UC San Diego Extension provides accredited professional trainings for the general public. This course is open to all would wish to build skills and knowledge in this field. Course Description Build upon the understanding of purchasing organizations and operational objectives you gained in previous Supply Management courses. Study more advanced and specialized topics such as capital asset acquisition, buying services, international purchasing, and purchasing in the public sector will be covered. The class will examine purchasing department objectives, organization, and administration, centralization vs. decentralization, logistics management, purchaser-seller relationships, subcontracting, strategic alliances, and more. Students will become familiar with the legal aspects of purchasing and how supplier relations are a key element of supply chain management. Learning Outcomes: Learn how to assess risk Understand how to prepare for supplier negotiations Understand contract formation Be exposed to operations management and how it relates to procurement Cover logistics and carrier incoterms Note: Prerequisite: Students should complete Supply Management I and II before enrolling in this course or have similar experience.
