SUMMARY This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining diesel vehicles and equipment in accordance with operating specifications. The position will also assemble or fabricate mechanical parts, pieces or products using a variety of tools and equipment according to required specifications in a fleet maintenance organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS will include the following: •Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, weld symbols, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately create equipment and products •Knowledgeable in ISO, ASME, AWS symbols •Prefer candidate with GMAW and GTAW experience in aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel flat work and pipe •Able to obtain ASME Section IX certification and maintain during employment •Utilize handheld tools such as a hand held screw gun, drill, and grinders •Operate calipers, weld gauges, tape measures, and other welding hand tool •Maintain weld machines using preventative maintenance methods •Continually evaluate weld machine performance and technology to improve cycle times •Create specific weldment set-ups and fixturing to meet geometric requirements •Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards •Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified •Rework and/or repair welded parts and products according to engineering specification changes •Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures •Prioritize work flow through effective communication with management staff •Maintain a clean and safe work area •Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests •Safely repair vehicles by performing the following: repair or replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems, make adjustments and alignments to bearing loads, valve mechanisms, etc. and other repairs/maintenance as required •Routinely perform preventive maintenance to include, but not limited to, installing component and part upgrades •Ensure all vehicles meet federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety and combustion control standards •Accurately maintain vehicle records to include services and repairs, inspections records, etc. •Ensure ship equipment is in safe and operable condition by following the manufacturer’s operating instruction, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues and, as needed, arrange for repairs •Continually improve job knowledge and stay abreast of industry trends by participating in educational and training opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications •Enhance the department and the Company’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring new opportunities to add value where needed •Abide by Company policies and procedures •Other duties and special projects as assigned EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS •HS Diploma/GED or at least 5 years specific work experience •Specific technical or vocational welding training or certification preferred •Basic math and geometry skills •Basic computer navigation and utilization skills preferred •Class A CDL license preferred, not required •Must have a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles and equipment •Must be able to maneuver under truck or trailer •Must be able to pass a Pretrip Inspection Test •Must have experience repairing and working around crude trailers •Must have knowledge of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and large and small mechanical components. •Must be able to properly diagnose “red tag” issues •Must have good verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers, and vendors •Must be a detail oriented, self-starter and able to work with little supervision while maintaining goals/tasks. •Should have basic PC skills to include all MS Office products •Must possess sound reasoning skills and be able to multi-task and maintain focus Must be willing to obtain the following once employed: •Current certifications and licenses necessary to safely perform repairs on machinery •US DOT brake inspector •HVAC certification •Annual Inspection Certification PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical requirements and work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
