Bassist Looking for World Beat

Description
I am the bass player for Diaspora, and I have been in love with “world beat” music most of my life, and I’m looking for others with a similar passion for music that falls under this label for jamming and eventual public performance. World beat is a fusion of many styles that musicians have been developing in musically interconnected cultures of the Afro-Latin-Asian world. This music is danceable, and seems to share a common spirit and groove. In the world beat spirit, the music of Diaspora has the following characteristics: * It is a hybrid of traditional and popular musical forms from many communities in an area from African Diaspora (Africa, Latin America, Caribbean) in the west, and runs in a contiguous band from Africa across the Arab World and Southwest Asia to the Indian subcontinent. * It is inspired and takes its elements from mainly traditional, rock, reggae, and Latin styles. * The music is fun, rhythmic, irresistibly danceable, infectious, contagious, but also sophisticated enough to be interesting to listen to and even carry important messages in its lyric. * It has 4/4 timing as its base (with possible 6/8 polyrhythmic integration) in order to make it easy for us to learn and collaborate and easy for an audience to dance to. * A crucial feature of the hybrid music of this Afro-Latin-Asiatic region is that musicians are influenced by and freely borrow from each other, constantly creating new styles and fusions in a cultural cross-pollination. In the same spirit, the idea of this project is not to copy any one form exactly, but to develop our own music, borrowing from this cross-pollination with the same characteristics and same universal grooves, yet sung in our own languages. The core group will be performers that meet regularly and reliably in order to develop a repertoire. “Guest” or occasional musicians can be incorporated for certain events once the core group is established. Needed for core group: * drummer * percussionist * guitarist * vocalist(s) * keyboardist Assembling bands is not new for me, as I co-founded San Diego Taiko and formed the first run of Diaspora. The goal of Diaspora is to perform in front of a dancing audience, which is one of the most euphoric experiences a musician can have. I have included links to a broad collection of inspirational clips from around the world for you to sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hcf9F0tEA5U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d43hAb8yrI0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VyCtVW1HOw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqo7X8sSrQM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW5l7dbH664 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIOdAhuFKyM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOb9kk6Kymg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jBAJs3otcY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdyOTry5_Jk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYSu0QVqnGw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8H_3zz-llKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVgFNQgE_KI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwFe0cajmqU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_0QTnWI2ks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbRgTaiOh_U
