About our fund: https://www.facebook.com/fundformj/ Mary Jane Gift was a mother, a sister, a daughter and a friend to many when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. Her two sons Alex and Tommy were 5 and 8 years old at the time. On April 26th, 2010, her battle with cancer came to end as she was laid to rest. Mary Jane taught us countless lessons throughout the course of her life, and the ones she taught us towards the end are why this Fund was established. Lesson #1. Stay positive...NO MATTER WHAT.She always found a way to think about the best in every situation. She was grateful each day that was given to her. Considering the amount of medical treatment and, for lack of a better word...living hell she was put through, we have no idea how MJ did this. But she did. Lesson #2. Find something to be thankful for and fight for it. There were times MJ should have been angry, and she was. But she channeled that emotion into something productive, instead of negative. Lesson #3. Find time to step away from it all...Once Mary Jane's cancer came out of remission, she was getting treatment so often, it was hard to keep track of. Then take into consideration this constant round of treatment lasted for 5 years, its hard to imagine the agony she faced. That being said, she always found a way to step away from the hospital, the cancer, the pain, the sickness, the sadness, and find it in things that made her happy. Architectural Digest, old maps from Europe, picture albums, a funny movie, or just a good book, LONG CONVERSATIONS with friends and family were all things she could dive headfirst into, and forget about needles, bags, waiting rooms, and scans. Why does all of this matter? Because the Mary Jane Gift Quality of Life Fund exists to help patients being treated for cancer, to remember to embrace the lessons our Mom left behind. Stay Positive. Be thankful. Step away from it all. The fund can help do this by providing simple gifts to patients that could help improve their quality of life, even if its for a short period of time. Stay positive. Be thankful. Enjoy life.
