This event's purpose is to inspire, empower, network and celebrate the next generation of lawyers, business professionals, etc. Today we showcase what being More Than A Lawyer (“MTAL”) is all about. Historically, there has been a misconception about the career options and lifestyle for lawyers of color. Although it can be a very promising career for some, the reality is that the legal profession in its entirety is only made up of roughly 5% of African-Americans. This leaves many people in a challenging position to find and build effective networks. The mission of this event is to inspire and empower the next generation of lawyers, while also networking with new and other seasoned attorneys. Whether educating the youth, fighting for social justice issues, changing the culture through sports, protecting the legal rights of clients in business, counseling families through personal legal matters, or working at some of the most prestigious law firms and corporations in the world, MORE THAN A LAYWER embodies it all and so much more. More Than A Lawyer was originally founded on the soil of the illustrious Texas Southern University campus at the esteemed Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Our founders paved the way for many students, mentees, and colleagues alike. By the grace of God, MTAL has expanded to several Cities, States, and Countries all over the world. More Than A Lawyer will continue to be a community-based organization that strives for inclusiveness. MTAL is for the support of underserved, underprivileged, and underrepresented people and legal professionals. Why be just a lawyer when you can be so much MORE!
