Ellis Dyson’s unique folk sound is clearly a product of his surroundings. Born and raised in North Carolina, he seamlessly blends the sounds of old time Piedmont string bands with the traditional jazz sounds of his new home in New Orleans. Cutting his teeth for the last 7 years as the band leader of Ellis Dyson & the Shambles, he has written and performed a repertoire of quirky narrative songs with lyrics as intriguing as the melodies. As a solo banjo player, Dyson performs stripped down versions of Shambles tunes and traditional songs from North Carolina and New Orleans. His on-stage personality and his soulful performances captivate all who dare to listen. Record shop by day. Live music venue by night.
