The Second Annual Lakota Food Summit is a conference focused on food sovereignty, local foods, traditional knowledge and building community. The Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition will be hosting their Second Annual Lakota Food Summit coming up on August 24, 25 & 26th, 2021. This will be taking place at the Holiday Inn-Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The summit’s opening day activities include a chef event with presentations and samples of decolonized foods and a social; this first day is free and open to the public. In addition, there will be a Hand Games Tournament on the first day. The 25th and 26th are the official conference days, where there will be presentations on a variety of topics surrounding food sovereignty, local foods, and community wellness. The Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition will be providing snack foods in the morning and afternoons on the 25th and 26th. The summit will conclude with an optional buffalo meat banquet and closing ceremony. Our target audience for this summit are members of the local communities and people from across the nation. From this conference attendees will gain a broader knowledge of Lakota foods, culture and values, and food sovereignty.
