VIRGINIA — Nine localities in Northern Virginia, plus three in the Fredericksburg area, made a new list of the 30 fastest-growing localities in Virginia over the past decade. Stacker, a data analysis news organization, compiled a list of the fastest-growing cities and counties in Virginia using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Localities were ranked by the highest population growth from 2010 to 2019. The fastest-growing locality in Virginia was no surprise. Loudoun County, which has seen its population soar over the past three decades, was No. 1 on the list, with a population growth of 35.5 percent. From 2010 to 2019, Loudoun's population grew by 103,481 people. On a nationwide basis, Loudoun was the 23rd fastest-growing locality. Coming in second behind Loudoun on a percentage basis was Manassas Park, which grew by 28.7 percent over the decade. The City of Fredericksburg was the fourth-fastest growing locality on a percentage basis, with a 22.4 percent growth over the 10-year period. The city's population grew by 5,247 people, making it the 74th fastest-growing locality in the nation. On a population basis, No. 2 on the list behind Loudoun County was Fairfax County, which grew by 97,308 people. At 1,145,862 residents, Fairfax County is the largest locality in Virginia and the 37th largest county in the nation. No. 3 on the list was another Northern Virginia locality. Prince William County grew by 82,008 people from 2010 to 2019, a 21.6 percent growth rate. Prince William County is the second-largest locality in Virginia and the 83rd largest county in the nation. No. 4 on the list was Arlington County, which grew by 35,997 people over the decade, an 18.2 percent population increase. Arlington is the ninth-largest locality in Virginia and the 282nd largest county in the nation. The city was ranked eighth in population growth from 2010 to 2019, increasing by 23,966 people to reach a population of 157,613. The city grew by 17.9 percent over the 10-year period. Stafford County was ninth on the list, with a population growth of 22,186 people. The 2019 population of Stafford County was 146,773, a 17.8 percent increase from 2010. Neighboring Spotsylvania County was 12th on the list, with a population increase of 12,261 during the decade. The county's population totaled 132,833 as of 2019, a 10.5 percent growth from 2010. Frederick County saw its population grow by 10,580 people between 2010 and 2019, placing it 15th on the list. The county, with Winchester as its county seat, had a population of 86,415 in 2019, a 14.0 percent increase from 2010. Fauquier County was 25th on the list, with a population increase of 5,182. The county had a population of 69,728 in 2019, an 8 percent increase from 2010. The City of Manassas saw a growth of 5,107 residents between 2010 and 2019. The city's population reached 41,174 in 2019, a 14.2 percent increase from 2019.
