ARLINGTON, VA — The polls have now closed in primary elections across Virginia. In Arlington, voters had the opportunity to select their preferred candidates for the Democratic nominations for Governor, Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor, the House of Delegates, and the Arlington County Board.
In the 45th District, incumbent Mark Levine's name appeared twice on Tuesday's ballot. He is being challenged by Elizabeth Bennett-Parker in the House of Delegates' race and is also running against six other candidates in the lieutenant governor's race.
Either Levine or Bennett-Parker will face off against Republican nominee Justin Maddox in a general election for the seat in November.
Locally, Democrats Chanda Choun and Takis Karantonis competed to fill the vacant seat on the Arlington County Board.
Choun is a 33-year-old Army reservist. He told Patch he is seeking office "To get us free from this pandemic and achieve justice for all. Arlington needs an elected representative with managerial experience, technical skills, a thoughtful heart, and unique tenacious leadership to make sure we have a fair and livable community 20 years from now.
Karantonis is a senior technical advisor. "These past months have also challenged me to ensure that our policies and actions serve all Arlingtonians in the midst of pandemic and racial justice crises," he said.
The Arlington County Democratic Committee wrapped up its caucus on May 23 to decide who they would endorse for the Arlington School Board in November. Mary Kadera defeated Miranda Turner, with a vote count of 3,836 to 2,368, respectively.
