ELMHURST, IL — A man selling his car was carjacked during a test drive Tuesday evening in Elmhurst, police said.
The victim had posted his 2012 Dodge Charger for sale on the internet and agreed to meet a prospective buyer shortly before 8 p.m. at Crestview Park in northeast Elmhurst, according to a police news release.
At the park, the victim let two prospective buyers sit inside the car and test drive it. At Lake Street and Emroy Avenue, one of the two men pulled out a handgun and ordered the driver out of the car, police said. The suspects then drove north on County Line Road.
A short time later, Elmhurst detectives recovered the stolen Charger in Lynwood.
The men were described as black, thin, 20 to 23 years old and wearing black shorts. One of the men was wearing a head cover and white tank top, while the other was wearing a ski mask and black T-shirt and was armed with the gun.
Police said they encourage residents to make internet transactions in the lobby of the Elmhurst Police Department. The station is open and staffed around the clock and is accessible to the public.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Elmhurst police at 630-530-3050.
