Press release from the Chico Police Department: June 9, 2021 On 06/08/2021 at approximately 02:35 AM, Chico Police Officers were dispatched to El Cerrito Drive for a report of a male refusing to leave a front porch while claiming someone was after him. The subject left the front porch and began ducking around the reporting parties' vehicle before moving to the backyard of the residence and onto a back porch. Officers arrived and searched the backyard of the residence but found the subject had left. Officers at the residence located a bicycle and backpack on the property that did not belong to the homeowner. The backpack contained identification for Dominic Lamont Wood (33 years old). While conducting an area check for the subject, a resident on El Reno Drive called 911 to report a male had broke into their residence while they were sleeping. One of the residents could see the subject was in possession of a large kitchen knife and moving about the front room. The residents did a fantastic job of safely staying inside of a bedroom away from the intruder. The residents remained calm during this extremely frightening experience and gave CPD Dispatch updated and accurate information to assist CPD. CPD Officers were still in the area searching when they received the updated information about the subject inside of the residence and arrived within a minute. Officers were able to surround the residence and gave instruction to the subject to walk outside. The subject complied with commands and was taken into custody without further incident. The subject was positively identified as Wood. Wood was found to have broken through the garage door to the interior of the residence where he retrieved the kitchen knives. Thankfully the kitchen knives were not used and were ultimately found in a bathroom. Wood was found to have been awake for four days and in possession of methamphetamine. Wood was arrested for Trespassing (602(o) PC), Vandalism of a dwelling (603 PC), Vandalism (594 PC), and possession of a controlled substance (11377(a) HS.
