PHOENIX, AZ — The Phoenix Mercury are teaming up with PayPal to host the team's seventh-annual LGBTQ+ PRIDE Night Friday. The three-time WNBA champions will host the Dallas Wings at 7 p.m. at downtown's Phoenix Suns Arena. The event features a commemoration of former Phoenix Suns and Mercury President Rick Welts, who helped launch the WNBA and was the first openly-gay executive in NBA history. Additionally, Friday night will put the spotlight on local groups doing community work, in addition to Pride-themed timeouts that include performances by the Hip Hop Squad, the team said. "The Phoenix Mercury were the first Arizona team to celebrate a Pride Night, attend the Phoenix Pride festival, and to march in the Phoenix Pride parade, and we are proud to continue our support of the LGBTQ+ community for a seventh consecutive season," said Mercury Chief Operating Officer Vince Kozar in a statement. "Our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion has never been higher and we are proud to be a leader in that space on behalf of our players, staff and fans." Friday's event is the seventh Pride Night that the Mercury have hosted, growing over the years to include appearances by distinguished guests, such as Olympian Adam Rippon. For tickets and additional information about Friday night's game, visit the Mercury's ticketing website.
