Description

The Madeira School is seeking Weekend Horse Stable Help. The facility, located in McLean, VA, supports a year-round comprehensive riding program, including approximately 30 school owned and boarder horses. Hours for this position are anticipated to be as follows but may change depending upon the needs of the school: Sundays 4:30 am – 12:30 pm. Responsibilities include: overseeing & assisting in turn out; feeding hay and grain; maintaining clean and plentiful water sources; cleaning 10-15 stalls per day; changing blankets according to temperature; assisting in basic horse health care, both routine and exceptional (e.g., identifying likenesses, colic, tying up, basic first aid); assisting in general care of horses, including grooming, clipping, mane pulling and daily hoof care; keep stables tidy and organized; assists in other stable chores as needed, including sweeping, raking, picking stalls Requirements: recognize, assess, treat and monitor a variety of equine injuries; valid driver’s license; reliable, team player who is able to communicate well; safety-oriented individual; authorized to work in the United States for any employer; physical requirements: several hours of standing, kneeling, bending, climbing stairs, climbing ladders & walking; lifting and carrying 50 pounds, push/pull animals of 900 pounds or more; exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid weather conditions.
