Opportunity for cheerful, enthusiastic history buffs to show off beautiful, 19th century
Greek Revival mansion in the historic district. It was once the home of Alida Harper Fowlkes, whose ability to push the envelope made her a pioneer in Savannah's restoration movement, flipping nine dilapidated houses from tenements to treasures. Thanks to her generosity, it is currently maintained as the state headquarters of a prestigious society that was formed by George Washington's officers at the end of the American Revolution.
Among its many treasures, the house features all six original chandeliers, portraits of family members, and beautifully hand painted faux bois walls that date from the late nineteenth century.
