We currently have an opportunity available for a Driver-Spotter/LTO in Taunton, MA. Position Objective: Position trailer(s) to specified dock doors or parking area for unloading to storage locations and for loading from storage locations to trailers for delivery to the customer. Essential Functions: Remove all unloaded inbound trailers to designated parking area. Spot assigned outbound trailers to designated dock doors for unloading. Remove unloaded trailers to designated secured parking area to prepare for pick up by transfer drivers. Document daily the location of each trailer for tracking purposes. Also note if trailer needs repair and mark “out of service” if trailer is not in conformance of State and Federal guidelines. Unload any undelivered or returned freight and locate proper storage locations as necessary. Communicate daily with Traffic Coordinator for trailer assignments/special instructions. Will assist as Lift Truck Operator as when not doing the Driver-Spotter role. Assist as delivery driver as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by Manager. Knowledge / Skills: Must be able to plan route based on freight. Must be able to operate winch. Maintain contact with Traffic Coordinator or management to advise of extended delays or inability to make scheduled deliveries. Must be CDL Class A licensed. Must be 24 years old. Must meet D.O.T. requirements. Must have previous tractor/trailer driver experience. (2 years minimum) Must be able to drive a lift truck. Must be able to use a map and all city directories. Physical Requirements: Ability to drive tractor/trailer combination. Must to be able to drive the maximum number of hours allowed by law. Able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs., a minimum of 50 times per day. Able to climb in and out of truck a minimum of 50 times per day. Able to climb off and on a lift truck a minimum of 50 times per day. Must be able to pass D.O.T. physical and drug screen. Must be able to bend, kneel, and have enough flexibility to inspect tractor and trailer. Training Requirements: Must be trained in use of lift truck by experienced lift truck operator. Must be trained in proper completion of paperwork. Must be trained in operation of winch. Must be trained in accident reporting procedures. Must be trained on all SAFE Requirements. Must complete Tread One Modules as assigned. Tool, Equipment, and Material Requirements: Tractor - single or tandem axle tractor and various trailer sizes and combinations. Operational winch. Four wheel dolly. Two wheel dolly. Maps and logs. Safety equipment as required by D.O.T. regulations. Safety and Security Requirements: Observe and comply with traffic regulations. Employ “defensive driving” techniques. Attend all required safety meetings. First aid kit in vehicle and traffic triangles or flares. Pre/post trip vehicle inspection. Must know procedures for reporting accident. Adhere to all safety regulations of both State and D.O.T. Chock vehicle while loading and unloading. Ensure safety and security of vehicle and cargo. Know procedures for chemical spills. Know purpose of Manufacturers’ Safety Data Sheets. Must comply with all facility SAFE Requirements. Must wear proper footwear.
