Description

Join DCPS as we walk together in the Capital Pride Walk! Like the Capital Pride Parade, this is an opportunity for us to deck ourselves out in our best Pride in DCPS and rainbow attire and gather as a community to show our support and advocacy for our LGBTQ+ students, staff, and families. Unlike the Capital Pride parade, we will not be tossing beads or sharing swag with spectators, and you will find that the streets won't be as packed with observers. We will still be exercising caution, social distancing, and frequently sanitizing our hands. You can find out more about this event by visiting the event page on the Capital Pride Alliance website. There is lots of useful information here. Be sure to read it all! GETTING A PRIDE IN DCPS T-SHIRT Is your old Pride in DCPS t-shirt from three Pride Parades ago looking a bit...worn? Don't worry! We have blocked off some time for folks to come by Central Office (1200 First Street, NE) to pick up a new shirt! You can stop by on Thursday, June 10th from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to pick up a shirt. We'll meet you in the lobby! Just indicate the size of shirt you would like to pick up when completing this registration form. WHAT TO EXPECT ON SATURDAY, JUNE 12th 11:30 - 12:15 p.m.: Meet your DCPS community at Stead Park near Dupont Circle. We'll have hand sanitizer and Pride flags for you fly during the Walk. If you have your own school banner, feel free to bring that, too! Bikes, trikes, wagons, rollerblades--they're all permitted on the walk route. No motorized vehicles are permitted, though.12:15 - 12:30 p.m.: We will make our way the short distance over to Dupont Circle to gather with the rest of the Walk participants. Don't worry if you are late; you can meet us at Dupont Circle for the Walk. 12:30 p.m.: The Walk will begin, leaving the Circle and heading down P Street, NW to Logan Circle. Then, we will head south down 13th Street to finish at Freedom Plaza. 2:00 p.m.: There will be a celebration and music at Freedom Plaza, and participants will be able to view the start of the Colorful Pridemobile! The vehicles in this line-up will be decorated in festive Pride colors. 3:00 p.m.: The Colorful Pridemobile departs Freedom Plaza. Health and Safety The Capital Pride Alliance will ensure that the Walk is safely organized; however, we have to work together to ensure that we remain safe. To reiterate our earlier point--keep practicing the health measures that stop the spread of COVID by washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer, and adhering to the latest CDC guidance.
