This is the 1st annual Juneteenth commemoration for Hyde Park with arts performances, community dialogues and an address by Mayor Janey. The event will feature drummers, poets, singing by Roosevelt students, a keynote address from Mayor Janey, a salute from Enactors of the 54th Regiment and Community awards. The Ceremony will be followed by small group conversations that explore:
"Freedom Songs from the Diaspora: A Sing-a-long ""“Envisioning a World Where Black People are Truly Free” "Hyde Park Dreamers- -Economics and Racial Equity: Is Black Wall Street Possible Again?"“Furthering Environmental Justice in Community- What Does it Mean?”"Juneteenth-What is It and What is my Personal Commitment to Racial Equity” The Ceremony begins at 12noon. Masks are required. wear comfortable clothes and shoes - African colors are suggested, bring lawn chairs, an open mind and a joyful spirit. Its a celebration!
