Jotina Buck, yoga guide, offers All PRIDE + Good Vibes Yoga HTX. LGBTQIA+ in Houston are invited to be in community & practice yoga. The year was 2010 shortly after my mama’s transition. I remember asking myself the question. Who do I owe a conversation about my sexuality? My answer. My daughter - Lauryn. That’s it. In the kitchen of our apartment I looked at Lauryn after dinner and shared. Me: Okay, I have something I want to tell you. Her: Okay. With a blank stare. Me: I know you’ve only seen mommie with daddy but I want you to know that mommie really likes women. I mean, like - in the way I liked daddy. How does that make you feel? Her: Its okay mommie. You can like who you want. God is gonna love you if you like boys or girls. And I love you. Me: ____ no words just tears, a sigh of relief, and a warm embrace. We hugged for what felt like hours. She was 6 years old. With my 6 year old, I knew I was safe. I felt safe and I felt the truth in every word she shared. • from that moment forward, I fully stepped into who I’d always knew I was but didn’t feel safe enough to fully be! • My 6 year old showed me how to fully pick myself and she did that by empowering me with a deeply true truth! I am loved FULLY by God! Today, it’s not about “coming out” for me it’s the choice to let folx in. I fully own who I am and I’m grateful to be in life’s loving embrace & experience with Lauryn! And, I know this story line is different for many of us in the LGBTQIA+ community. With this knowing, I’m sharing an offering of safety, being seen, and being with your body’s voice through yoga + breath work + meditation to access deeper truths, self-heal, and be in a container of vulnerability with others. Join Lauryn & I on Thursdays at 6:30p and Saturdays at 10a at Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston for ALL PRIDE + GOOD VIBES YOGA! Here, you are safe. I see you. I hear you. I know you. You are worthy.
