Gather with us to celebrate Independence Day, the Declaration of Independence, and community. Enjoy great views, good food and beer, live music, fun games, great company and tours of the 1858 house for $12 (includes two drinks from a local brewery). Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and spread out on our 7 acres of greenspace near downtown and right off I-40. The day recalls the spirit of 19th century Independence Day celebrations when communities gathered for patriotic revelry and enjoyment. Overlooking downtown Knoxville to the west and the Great Smoky Mountains to south, historic Mabry's Hill enjoys a spectacular view of the fireworks around the city and county. Take it easy with this laid-back celebration. It is the perfect time to come chill on the hill! Take in the surrounding natural beauty and history while savoring food from food trucks and beer from a local brewery. We'll also have several activities for kids and the young at heart including sack races, watermelon seed spitting contests, three-legged races, bocce, croquet, corn hole, and much more. We'll have a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Purchase tickets to join in a cake walk and possibly take home a delicious cake from a local bakery! Trotta Montgomery Realty Company will offer a cool treat for everyone with a pony and cart to hand out ice cream! And the historic house museum will open for self-guided tours. Tickets for adults (16+) are $12 ( includes two drink tickets), children (ages 5-15) are $5, members of Mabry-Hazen House are $5, and children under 5 are free. Event will occur rain or shine. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: How many people attend? How do I know if tickets are still for sale? A: 275 tickets are available year this year. We have an automatic cut off point on Eventbrite and will update this page as soon as tickets are sold out. Tickets do sell quickly. Follow us on Facebook to get updates as the date gets closer! Q: How well can you see fireworks? A: Mabry’s Hill is the highest hill north of the Tennessee River. It offers a spectacular view of Knoxville and Knox County. The main reason the hilltop was occupied by both armies during the Civil War was it gave such a commanding view of the downtown. While we typically have a great view every year, we cannot control the weather or which way the wind blows. Q: Do I need to bring a chair? A: Yes. We will provide some tables and chairs, but guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. We also line chairs up on the western edge of the property specifically for viewing the fireworks. The central lawn is laid out for eating and enjoying the live music. Mabry’s Hill consists of 7 acres of land, so we have plenty of room for everyone! Q: Can I bring a cooler and food? A: Yes. You are welcome to bring a cooler and your own food. Food trucks will be on site and have favorite holiday foods available purchase. Part of the proceeds benefit Mabry-Hazen House. Two (2) beverages are included with your ticket, but guests are welcome to BYO too. Drinks include beer, lemonade, water, and select sodas. We will not, however, tolerate anyone contributing to minors. Water is provided along with your ticket. Q: Do you mail tickets? A: No. Your name will automatically be added to our guest list when purchasing tickets through Eventbrite. Simply arrive on site when the event opens and we will check your name off the list.
