MASSAPEQUA, NY — For the first time in more than a year, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) is reopening its clinics to in-person visits. The clinic on Carmans Road in Massapequa has just reopened, and will be followed by other locations this summer. Appointments for in-person care are now available by calling 800-230-PLAN or visiting Planned Parenthood's website. This summer, clinics in Kingston, Staten Island, Rome and Goshen will reopen for in-person appointments. "With the pace of the pandemic waning and more people receiving lifesaving COVID-19 vaccinations, we're proud to be able to connect people to care during this time of tremendous healing," said Joy D. Calloway, interim CEO of PPGNY. "PPGNY health centers will bring essential sexual and reproductive health services and education back to communities that have suffered the brunt of the pandemic, most of which are Black, Latinx, immigrant and people with low incomes. We are also proud to enhance our innovative health care delivery options, including telehealth, to meet the on-demand needs of the people we serve." While Planned Parenthood is mostly known for being able to provide safe abortions for women, that is only a small part of the health services the organization offers. In-person visitations will allow Planned Parenthood to once again offer cancer screenings, birth control, emergency contraceptives, STI testing & treatment, HIV testing & prevention, transgender/nonbinary hormone therapy, pregnancy testing and options counseling, and much more. As the pandemic ramped up in New York last year, Planned Parenthood closed its clinics to in-person visits and switched to telehealth services. Last April, PPGNY was seeing around 600 patients a week through its telehealth services. "We are recovering from a public health crisis that has reshaped our organization and our nation," Calloway said. "PPGNY may not look the same once this pandemic is over, but our mission is resolute. We're creating a world where all people have the information, power, and resources they need to make their own decisions about their bodies, their families, and their futures."
