ISLAND PARK, NY — An early morning fire at a Long Beach Road property caused "substantial damage," a spokesperson for the Island Park Fire Department told Patch. Firefighters from Long Beach, Point Lookout, Baldwin and Oceanside assisted in quickly extinguishing the blaze after 4 a.m. Tuesday. At the property location, washers and dryers are manufactured, and there is an auto mechanic shop. It was a challenge for fire personnel to navigate the oil and car parts. The fire is believed to have started in a mechanic's garage, the spokesperson said. No one was injured, but the Nassau County and Town of Hempstead fire marshals are investigating, the Island Park Fire Department said.
