MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Manatee County could become the first Florida county with its own local abortion restrictions. Commissioners are considering two pro-life initiatives proposed by Commissioner James Satcher, a minister, at Tuesday's Manatee County Board of County Commissioners meeting, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. One proposal is similar to the Heartbeat Bill in Texas, which prohibits abortions after the heartbeat of an unborn child is first detected. The second initiative incentivizes women treated by the country's crisis pregnancy program to give birth, the newspaper's Jesse Mendoza reported. Like what you're reading? After that, abortions are only allowed in cases where a woman's life or health is endangered. Commissioners voted to give Satcher permission to explore these initiatives and use county resources, the Herald-Tribune reported. Read the full story in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
