Self Care- This social event will allow participants to learn three different plants that’s grown local and native to NE Ohio and how they can boost immune systems and offer stress relief. There will be samples available to explore taste and variety.
The Mahoning Valley has been challenged with poverty, food sovereignty and blight. Many of the residents are connected to vacant lots and or backyards. Food Sovereignty stresses that food should be local, culturally appropriate and sustainably available. When residence are able to engage in green space activity and or gardening they will be able to boost their self esteem all while gaining new insight into the art and beauty of plant medicine. Plant medicine is a way of experiencing all plants as living beings with nutrient dense properties that encourages well-being.
Sophia L. Buggs is the owner and operator of Lady Buggs Farm. She’s been sharing urban agriculture, plant medicine and wellness tips within the Mahoning Valley for a decade. She also serves as The Mahoning Food Access Coordinator through Healthy Community Partnership and sits on the board of Friends Of The Fellows Riverside Gardens. Sophia holds a Masters of Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from American InterContinental University, a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Bethune Cookman University and a year of OJT Specialty Crop Apprenticeship through Goodness Grows with a certification in Intuitive Plant Medicine from One Willow Apothecary.
