Description

GRAHAM, WA — The detour around 264th Street East will be in place for the remainder of the month. On Friday, a landslide forced crews to close roughly 250 feet of 264th Street near the Puyallup river. The crews had been working to install retaining walls to the outside edge of 264th Street East between Orting Kapowsin Highway East and Orville Road East, but the construction caused the shoulder of the eastbound lanes to slide, forcing the county to fully block the road in both directions. Unfortunately for commuters, the only workaround is a 5.6 mile detour stretching south all the way to Lake Kapowsin and back. (Image: Pierce County)Wednesday, the county confirmed that it would take at least through June 30 before the road is reopened. During the closure, crews will finish their work building retaining walls and installing a new guard rail in the area. In the meantime, the detour route has been marked with signs that guide drivers through the extended route.
