Tubing Ban Issued For Saint Vrain Creek

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Lyons officials have issued a tubing ban for North Saint Vrain and Saint Vrain Creek, which takes effect 4 p.m. Wednesday. All single chamber flotation devices will be banned until June 25 on the waterways from Apple Valley Road/County Road 71 (upper Apple Valley Road) to North Foothills Highway. First responders had to rescue several tubers over the past couple of weeks. The order was issued due to significant rainfall and spring runoff that has caused the St. Vrain River flow to reach dangerous levels, officials said. Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle consulted with the town of Lyons, the town's police chief and fire chief, to enact the ban. "There is a specific exemption for kayaks and white-water canoes, which are permitted; nonetheless kayakers are strongly encouraged to observe caution," the sheriff's office said in a news release. Sheriff's deputies will be posting notices Wednesday morning that let the public know about the ban.
