DALY CITY, CA — San Mateo County prosecutors charged an Oakland man with a hate crime in connection with an attack on an Asian American postal service worker in Daly City on Saturday. According to prosecutors, Lamont Demetrius West Verdon, 26, is accused of yelling, "F—k you, I'm going to kill you, you f—king Asian" at the 48-year-old victim, pulling the postal worker's mailpack off and going through the mail. The victim locked himself in his truck, but Verdon followed him and kept screaming, prosecutors said. Police arrested Verdon nearby after the victim called 911. He was charged with making criminal threats with a hate crime enhancement as well as a drug offense. Verdon denied to police that he had done anything to the victim, according to prosecutors. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody on $1,000 bail.
