By Chris Jennewein, Times of San Diego June 9, 2021 The Border Patrol reported Tuesday finding an unaccompanied 5-year-old Guatemalan girl walking along the border wall near San Ysidro. Agents observed the child being dropped off near the end of the wall along the Tijuana River channel around 10:45 a.m. Monday and took her to a nearby Border Patrol station. "Sadly, this is the latest example of how the most vulnerable populations are being exploited for financial gain," said Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke. "Thankfully our agents encountered this child before any harm could befall her." The child told agents her parents were in the United States, but she did not have any contact information for them. She said that her 7-year-old cousin remained in Mexico. Agents notified both the Mexican and Guatemalan consulates as well as Health and Human Services officials.
