EGHS Students Gather To Repaint Vandalized Pride Month Rock

EAST GREENWICH, RI — A group of East Greenwich High School students recently gathered to repaint the giant rock outside the high school that was vandalized after being decorated in celebration of Pride Month, reported WPRI. The rock was initially painted by ASAAP, a mental health advocacy group at East Greenwich High School. The students painted a rainbow flag with the words "Happy Pride" on the rock to mark the beginning of an important month for the LGBTQ+ community. However, only a few days later, the rock was vandalized with the word "nah" written all over it and a big black "X" over "Happy Pride." The students didn't allow the hateful act to stop them, gathering hours later to repaint the rock to read "Love," hang a banner at the school's entrance, and give the school's mascot a bisexual pride flag to hold. "We wanted to show the people who did that hateful act before that love would always prevail over hate," Michaela Shunney, a Junior at EGHS, told WPRI.
