BURR RIDGE, IL — A former dentist from Burr Ridge was sentenced Wednesday to jail for practicing dentistry without a license, prosecutors said.
James D'Alise, who lives in the 10 block of Godair Circle, was found guilty last month of seven counts of unlicensed practice, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. He was sentenced to 270 days in the DuPage County Jail.
From August 2018 to April 2019, D'Alise provided dental care to patients without a valid license, the release said. In 2018, the state Department of Financial and Professional Regulation revoked D'Alise's license after an investigation into his practice prompted by hundreds of complaints from victims on his dental procedures and business practices, prosecutors said.
The investigation also revealed several patients were forced to seek additional dental care at their own expense to repair work performed by D'Alise, according to the news release.
"When people visit their dentist, they expect that the dentist providing services to them is licensed and in good standing with the state," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. "For one and one half years, Mr. D'Alise ignored this requirement and will now be held accountable for his actions."
D'Alise was taken into custody immediately following Wednesday's proceedings. He will be required to serve at least half of his sentence, prosecutors said.
Next month, D'Alise will be in court for a hearing on restitution for his victims, according to the news release.
