18-Year-Old Dies In Highway 4 Crash: CHP

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — An 18-year-old Antioch girl died in a single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday morning on state Highway 4 in Antioch, the California Highway Patrol said. Shortly after 10:15 a.m., she crashed and overturned in a 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup truck on eastbound SR-4 near the Somersville Road freeway onramp, according to the CHP. The 18-year-old was ejected from the truck and onto the roadway, the CHP said. "It appears that the female driver was not wearing her seatbelt and tragically sustained critical injuries from the crash ejection," the CHP said. "She was transported to John Muir Hospital in Concord but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the hospital." A Sig-alert was issued at 10:30 a.m. as the crash blocked the two right lanes. At 11:45 a.m., CHP reported the Sig-alert was lifted. "It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation," the CHP said. The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office was expected to identify the girl once her family members were properly notified. "This crash was a tragic loss of a young life that will never be fulfilled," the CHP said. "Please always wear your seatbelt at all times when in a vehicle."
