Quality food shouldn’t be exclusive to a specific income bracket. We believe that eating local, choosing organic, and supporting sustainable is key to a better world -- One in which people and the environment are healthy, happy, and connected. Access to organic, fresh produce should be a right, not a privilege. So, we’ve started on a journey to bridge the gap between low-income families and local quality food. Our adventure begins with one acre of land, six chickens, a dedicated team, and families in need. The Giving Garden is starting small. In its first year, the farm will produce vegetables and eggs for a handful of Gainesville families who have signed up for free bags of harvest. Families will receive food giveaways on a weekly basis. Bags will include produce that families have indicated as “preferred vegetables”, and recipe cards for veggies that may be new to their kitchens. The free produce will be distributed to families’ doors, as to remove transportation or time as hurdles in accessing fresh food. The goal is to expand production in upcoming years. Over time, the Giving Garden aims to serve as many families in need as the land and labor will provide. How can you help? Donate! The Giving Garden is self-funded in year one, meaning we rely entirely on donations by those who believe in this cause. Donations will go towards purchasing tools and materials. Donate at: https://gofund.me/dae91e24 The Giving Garden is always open to tool and material donation. Here are a few examples of helpful gifts to the farm: Hoes Shovels Compost Low Tunnel Hoops Frost Cloth Wood for building raised beds Harvest containers Volunteer! The Giving Garden is entirely driven by volunteerism. Committed volunteers help the farm to rely on consistent help, even if that looks like a volunteer committing to a few hours every week. Can’t commit to a schedule? There are dedicated Volunteer Days at the Giving Garden. Students: need volunteer credits for school requirements? Consider volunteering at the Giving Garden this semester. How do volunteers participate?
