Gather a picnic, pack a lawn chair or blanket and join in as we bring music to The Gardens at Elm Bank. Catch up with a friend or stroll through the gardens while listening in on the sounds of the evening. Reserve your entry ticket for Wednesday June 23rd as we host the lovely sounds of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra starting at 7pm. Rain date June 30th. Founded in 1948 as the Wellesley Community Orchestra, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra was the brainchild of Wellesley residents: BSO violinist Rolland Tapley and Mrs. William Vogler. Maestro Tapley served as music director and conductor for nearly thirty years, offering three or four concerts each season, including a Pops Concert and a Youth Concert. Performances were held in various locations in Wellesley, Littleton and Framingham. Mr. Tapley retired in 1973 and was succeeded by Robert J. Prins (1972-1991) and Michael Webster (1992-1993). Max Hobart, the Music Director since 1993, will be stepping down at the end of the 2020-21 season. The WSO is currently conducting a search for its new director to help shape its future identity. Since 1984 the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra has been orchestra-in-residence at MassBay Community College. Garden entrance is allowed starting at 6pm. Restrooms and a bottle refill station available on-site. As always, please no dogs.
