Jo Bunton-Keel Born and raised near the Ohio River, Jo Bunton-Keel became interested in dance while a student at Ohio University in Athens.  Once in Colorado, she became assistant choreographer for Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, before forming her own Movement Free Dance Company.  Jo was co-founder (with Jimmy Walker) and the artistic director of Eulipions Theatre Company (1982-1996), which was dedicated to encouraging and fostering artistic and cultural works by and about people of color.  Eulipions staged the celebrated regional premieres of The Gospel at Colonus and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, among many other outstanding productions.  In the early 1980s, Jo was the first speaker for the newly formed Denver chapter of Black and White Men Together.  She is the proud mother of two sons; her beloved gay son Brett died of AIDS in 1996.  Jo was the earliest supporter of the Althea Center’s LGBTQ program, “Mariposa: Embracing Wholeness,” when it was created in 2017. However, everyone should be respectful of individuals who may wish to continue wearing masks, keep socially distanced, and avoid hugs. If you have questions, please email Sarma at [email protected].
