A 10-mile, strenuous point-to-point hike on Kebler Pass.
This hike will be WSCC Mike's Hikes first ever shuttle adventure! We will meet at WSCC office at 7:00 and carpool to Kebler Pass Road. First, we'll drop off a car or two at the Erickson Spring's Trailhead. All of us will then drive up in the remaining cars up to the Ruby Anthracite Trailhead, about 1 hour's drive from the office. This trail lies mostly within the Raggeds Wilderness as it slowly descends through aspen forest to the rim of Ruby Anthracite Canyon. It's a steep descent of approximately 800 feet via switchbacks down to the Ruby Anthracite Creek. The creek must be crossed, so hiking poles are highly recommended for both the steep descent and the crossing of the creek. From there, the trail climbs nearly 1000 feet to Devil's Stairway and the highpoint of the trail. From here, it's all downhill to the creek below. Once down to the creek, the terrain becomes easier. In total, the hike is about 10 miles, with about 900ft of elevation gain and 2600ft of loss. Due to the long mileage, steep terrain and likelihood of getting your feet wet in a creek, previous hiking experience is recommended for this hike.
