Description

Join the Moody and Alejandro Chaoul for a special workshop around meditation. Join the Moody and Alejandro Chaoul, PhD, Huffington Foundation Endowed Director of the Mind Body Spirit Institute at the Jung Center of Houston, for a special workshop around meditation. Organized in conjunction with the Moody's summer exhibition Brie Ruais: Movement at the Edge of the Land, the three sessions will focus on different aspects that echo the large-scale ceramic sculptures by Brie Ruais, displayed inside the Moody and in the grounds outdoors, connecting the architecture with the natural environment. Over the course of the workshop, participants will acquire tools to create balance within by grounding down, connecting to the earth, letting go of any negative energy, thoughts or emotions. Centered around the element of earth, the workshop will begin with a conversation between Alejandro Chaoul and Brie Ruais. The element of clay will be incorporated in the practice, creating a physical engagement that echoes that of the artist in her work. The sessions will take place outside, in front of the Moody, blankets will be provided. In case of declining weather, the workshop will take place inside. June 11, 4:30-5:00pm: Art and Meditation A Dialogue between Brie Ruais and Alejandro Chaoul on Art, Meditation and how the elements of nature (earth, water, fire, air and space), and principally earth can help us to connect outwardly but also inwardly. June 18, 4:30-5:00pm: Grounding Earth: grounding or sluggish? When we connect to earth we can feel grounded, but also fall into drowsiness. How can we use the quality of earth to support our grounding, clarity and flourishing in everyday life. Join us in a playful meditation, with movements that can revitalize your energy from the ground up, and enable you to find some inner stillness. June 25, 4:30-5:00pm: What is the sound of earth? We will explore our connection to earth through sound, clay, and meditation; finding ways to settle, allowing our inner awareness to shine like the sun in a vast open sky.
