Help us clean up Willowbrook Reach! Sunday, June 13, 9:00-10:30: Taco and coffee hangout at 3907 Cherrywood Rd 10:30-12:30 Creek cleanup If you love and appreciate Willowbrook Reach as a green oasis in the Cherrywood neighborhood, then we hope you will join your fellow neighbors this Sunday (June 13th) for a creek cleanup and hangout. We'll remove all of the trash that was deposited after the recent rains, provide other maintenance for this community-supported waterway, and get to meet and hangout with each other in an outdoor environment (with tacos!). Sunday, June 13 9:00-10:30: Taco and coffee hangout at 3907 Cherrywood Rd You're invited to my front yard along the creek to meet your fellow neighbors, talk about the Creekside Restoration program that created Willowbrook Reach as we know it today, and eat tacos. We'll also talk about the Hancock Conservancy's vision of establishing a similar creekside restoration for Waller Creek through Hancock Golf Course. 10:30-12:30 Creek cleanup We'll split into groups, divvy up sections of the creek, and collect trash into provided trash bags. We'll then bring the trash back to my house and may perform other tasks, such as mulching and trail maintenance. Feel free to come for as much as you'd like, even if it's only for the morning hangout! Those engaging in the cleanup will want to wear shoes that they can get wet, as most trash is in the creek itself and the best way to traverse the creek is through the water. Also, long pants (and maybe sleeves and gloves) are a good idea to protect against the poison ivy that is quite prevalent (and which we will be killing!). Trash bags will be provided, but please bring trash grabbers and gloves if you have them. If we are able to get ahold of mulch (we are pursuing some city resources for free mulch), we will need a lot of wheelbarrows and shovels.
