Guided tours about the history of slavery and freedom at Stagville.
**Due to a high level of interest in this event, we are now asking visitors to make a reservation here to ensure we can accommodate everyone on our Juneteenth tours on this day. Thank you!**
Almost a thousand people were freed at Stagville at the end of the Civil War. How did freedom come? What did emancipation really mean? What hopes, dreams, and fears did freed families have?
On Juneteenth, Historic Stagville invites visitors to remember emancipation and explore the history of the struggle for freedom on one of North Carolina's largest plantations. Outdoor guided tours about emancipation and the legacies of slavery will be offered at: 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. Tours will last about 60-75 minutes. Self-guided tours are also available all day.
Admission and tours are free for all.
Historic Stagville is a State Historic Site that preserves the remnants of the one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. The Bennehan-Cameron family owned approximately 30,000 acres of land, and enslaved about 900 people on that property. Today, Stagville interprets the lives, families, culture, and work of enslaved people on the Bennehan-Cameron plantations.
Historic Stagville is free and open to the public with guided tours at 11, 1, and 3 on Tuesday-Saturday. Call in advance for groups, field trips, or private tours.
