TAMPA, FL — A 6-year-old child is recuperating after he was grazed by a bullet fired by a 4-year-old at a house on East Frierson Avenue Tuesday. According to Tampa police, the gun apparently belonged to a 15-year-old friend of the children's family. It was hidden under a sofa at the home when the 4-year-old discovered it around 10 a.m. and fired it. A bullet grazed the 6-year-old's leg. The 15-year-old has been charged with two felony counts of culpable negligence and a misdemeanor charge of minor in possession of a firearm. While the injury was not serious, Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren said the incidents of guns ending up in the hands of children has become a very serious problem in Tampa Bay. In a tweet, Warren expressed his outrage, saying his "anger-fueled tirade on gun safety and the gun violence epidemic does not lend itself to 280 characters." .@tampapd reported it is investigating a 6 yr old who was shot in the leg by a 4 yr old who found a gun in the house. My anger-fueled tirade on gun safety & the gun violence epidemic does not lend itself to 280 characters. So I'll just say thank god he's alive.— Andrew Warren (@AndrewWarrenFL) June 8, 2021
