BROOKLYN, NY — A retired NYPD officer died on Monday night after he was shot during an altercation outside a Brooklyn pizzeria, according to police. The 57-year-old retired officer was shot in the chest around 7:18 p.m. after he and a retired corrections officer confronted a 33-year-old who was arguing with an 86-year-old man outside Korner Pizza on Church Avenue near East Third Street, Deputy Chief Joseph Gulotta said at a press conference. The 33-year-old was also shot, in the arm, Gulotta said. "The two males in their 50s confronted the 33-year-old and a physical fight ensued," Gulotta told reporters. "During the course of the struggle, which moved down the block, the 52-year-old male pulled out his firearm and one round was discharged, striking both victims." Police said they did not know the cause of the argument and have not yet revealed the name of the retired officer who died. There were no arrests stemming from the incident as of Tuesday morning.
