Incumbents King, Guzman Secure Nominations In 2nd, 31st Districts

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Incumbent Delegates Candi King and Elizabeth Guzman secured their party's nominations in the 2nd and 31st House of Delegates districts respectively, according to the Associated Press. Guzman secured 53 percent of the vote in her primary election, while King garnered 69 percent in her election. In the Republican primary, Jeffrey Dove Jr. competed with Tim Cox for the nomination in the 51st District. Hala Ayala, a Democrat who won the party's nomination for lieutenant governor on Tuesday, currently represents the district. Cox held 77 percent of the votes while Dove Jr. had 23 percent Tuesday evening, according to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections. All of the district's 22 precincts have reported results. The winner of the primary will face Brianna Sewell, who already secured the Democratic nomination in the district. The 51st district was held by a Republican Delegate, Rich Anderson, from 2010 to 2018. However, Ayala secured the seat in 2017's general election by a nine percent margin. Del. King will face off against Republican candidate Giana Ciarcia in November's general election. Meanwhile, Del. Guzman will run against Republican Ben Baldwin. Baldwin served for ten years in the U.S. Marine Corps and is now a member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce.
