STAMFORD, CT — Over the weekend, a single-vehicle crash sent two people to Stamford Hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, police said the driver, a 27-year-old male, and the passenger, a 22-year-old female, have been moved out of the ICU but remain hospitalized. Both are Stamford residents.
The crash occured at shortly before 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, when a 2019 Subaru WRX was driving northbound on Ocean Drive West.
"[The car] just failed to negotiate a curve, probably due to excessive speed, and so it started to slide. It hit a telephone pole, snapped it into pieces and the wires came down," said Sgt. Jeff Booth, supervisor of the Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.
The car continued to move, and it flipped over onto the passenger side. It slid and came to rest in a private driveway, Booth said. The female passenger had to be extricated from the car.
The crash is under investigation.
