SUMMIT, NJ — With all districts reporting, the unofficial vote tallies are in for the five candidates who are running for the Democratic and Republican nominations to vie for four Summit Common Council seats in November. While the nominees in these unopposed races were a foregone conclusion, political observers sometimes look to the vote tabulations to determine how much support each side has early in the race. In addition, Police Chief Robert Weck had mounted a campaign to get enough write-in votes to win the Republican party's nomination to compete against incumbent Democratic Councilman Andy Minegar for a 1st Ward seat in November. Since one candidate in that Republican primary appears to have gained more than 200 write-in votes, he is likely to have done so. Patch will update the results when they are available.
