As the world locked down, hitting pause on the global economy, the overall profits of Fortune 500 companies dropped from $1.24 trillion to $859 billion. More than 70 percent of Fortune 500 sectors saw a decline in profits. A few sectors saw increases, the list notes, including technology and household products, the latter of which reported a 106 percent increase in profits. Women hit some big milestones on this year's list. The number of women running businesses on the Fortune 500 hit an all-time record of 41; and, for the first time ever, two Black women are running Fortune 500 businesses (Roz Brewer of No. 16 Walgreens Boots Alliance and Thasunda Brown Duckett of No. 79 TIAA).
