New All-Inclusive Playground To Open At Woodhaven Park Next Week

EAGAN, MN — Woodhaven Park will reopen the afternoon of June 15 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the city of Eagan said. The grand opening ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. that afternoon after an hour of open play time, beginning at 4 p.m., the city said. Eagan's Mayor Mike Maguire will speak at the ceremony and will be joined by city council members, city leaders and Parks and Recreation staff, the city said. The new 18,000 square foot playground includes a sensory-rich, accessible and all-inclusive playground as well as a Bankshot basketball court, the city said. "The City of Eagan is committed to building an inclusive community and a great place to live for its next generation," the city said in a news release. "Accessible playgrounds allow every kid, with or without a disability, to learn and play on a variety of playground equipment." The playground also includes: Musical instruments Sensory panelsSpinning elements Swing setsLarge play structure with seven slidesBankshot courtMultiple ramps and climbing structures "We know that inclusive playgrounds teach life lessons like understanding, cooperation, empathy, and leadership to children of all abilities," Andrew Pimental, Eagan's director of parks and recreation said. "We worked together with community members, organizations, and playground designers to build what we believe is one of the biggest, most inclusive play spaces in the state."
